Greetings, earthlings (& potential extraterrestrials)! Welcome to my official website’s birthday party. The gift of the hour: this blog post! (Don’t worry, I’ll try to keep it short.)
In terms of life changes, this year has been huge for me. I adopted a cat, got engaged, finished my MFA, and now, I’m making a career change. For the past three years, I’ve been day jobbing in Student Affairs as a student activities advisor while completing my education. My intention, for a long time, was to enter Student Affairs professionally upon the completion of my master’s. But over time, I’ve come to realize that I am on a different path.
Earlier this summer, I had the privilege of attending the Juniper Summer Writing Institute at UMass Amherst, where I earned my degree. In doing so, I discovered a truth about myself: I am happiest, most productive, and most passionate when I am creating something. In the creative disciplines, one creates a tangible product that can be sent into the world to invite discussion, calls to action, and inspire further creative projects. This desire for communication and connection is why I chose to study creative writing in the first place, and so, “following my truth” means living up to my desire for creativity in the professional sector. Even though it took me three years to actually realize it.
With that, I’m starting my foray into freelance writing, editing, and consulting. Whether it’s critiquing academic writing, generating web content, ghostwriting, proofreading, or writing spectacular online dating profiles, I will tackle just about anything you can throw at me.
